Aidan...

12/25 – Merry Christmas! Aidan gave us a great gift, he was off the c-pap and on the nasal cannula. During his cares I got to hold him. It was so wonderful to have him in my arms, even if it was just for a short time. They increased his milk intake to 2 mls every hour.

12/26 – Yesterday was a little too much for our little guy. Around midnight he started breathing a little too fast so they put him back on the c-pap. He is completely off the bili-lights and is receiving 3 mls every hour of milk. He is back to his birth weight of 2 lbs. 7.8 oz. My co-worker, Ed came and met Aidan for the first time.

12/27 – Today was better for all of us. Aidan was doing well on the c-pap and had a good night and day. They increased the oxygen a little but he’s relaxing and doing better. They increased his feeding to 4 mls an hour.

12/28 – They took Aidan’s pic line out. They thought they felt a bump and were concerned it was inflamed. They did a cbc to check for infection, it came back clear. They won’t bother putting another in, as he should only be on an IV for 3 more days. Bilirubin count came back good so no more lights! He received antibiotics today as a preventative measure for yeast infection, he doesn’t have one, it’s standard for all babies in the NICU to get the antibiotics. Feedings increased to 5 mls an hour. Should be on straight breast milk in 3 days, currently still receiving some TPN (nutrients) through IV. He weighs 2 lbs 10.3 oz.

12/29 – Aidan only had 1 brady overnight and they took him off the c-pap. He had 2 bradies, but instead of putting him back on the cpap, they increased the oxygen flow through the nasal cannula. He started getting 6 mls of milk and off TPN, he is only receiving D10 through the IV (D10 is basically calories). He weighs 2 lbs 10.88 oz.

12/30 – Our little guy is up to 7 mls of milk an hour and only 1 ml of fluid per hour through IV. He had several bradies but they increased the oxygen flow from .5 liters to 1 liter. His belly was a little big and had a harder time with the last increased feeding. He only had 1 brady after oxygen increase.

12/31 – Aidan’s doing well. He’s on the c-pap for a little rest, not much change from yesterday.

1/1 – Happy New Year! We didn’t get to see Aidan because I was very ill with mastitis. It’s horrible! However, Aidan is doing well on the c-pap and resting a lot. He started getting milk fortifier with the breast milk, basically added calories.

1/2 – Aidan weighs 2 lbs 10 oz. He’s having some drainage in his eyes so they are doing a culture to make sure it’s not an infection. The c-pap was wearing on his nose so they are watching it so it doesn’t break down the septum.

1/3 – Aidan’s back on the nasal cannula to give his nose a break from the c-pap. His eyes are still weeping so they are starting him on warm compresses and saline. Aidan’s feeding is increased to 8 mls an hour (5.6 oz a day) and weighs 2 lbs. 10.8 oz. He pulled his feeding tube out of his mouth for the nurse today.

1/4 – Aidan is on full feed of 8 mls an hour with the calorie enhancer and alternating between 8 hours on nasal cannula and 4 hours on c-pap. He weighs 2 lbs 11.9 oz.

1/5 – He had a good day and still alternating between the nasal canula and c-pap. He weighs 2 lbs. 13 oz. He had a little fluid that was showing up in an x-ray. They treated him for the retention.

1/6 – Zac & Lacey came with us to visit Aidan today. He was back on the c-pap after a few bradies but he’s still doing well. His eye is still weeping, the culture came back ok so they are still resisting using antibiotics. Lost a little weight, must have been the fluids, weighs 2 lbs. 12.5 oz.

1/7 – He’s still on the c-pap but doing well at around 26% oxygen. His eyes were not better so they started him on antibiotics two times a day. He weighs 2 lbs 13.5 oz.

1/8 – He had a good night, only 2 bradies during the night and one in the morning. The nurse said he was very active this morning alert and looking around during his cares. He’s still on the c-pap but at 21 – 23% oxygen.
This last photo is my favorite! He knows just how to melt my heart.
God bless you little man, and keep growing so Mommy and Daddy can bring you home!
